    Position Summary:

    The Credit Manager position provides overall leadership to Patten Industries as it relates to credit worthiness, retail financing, collections and counsel.  Leads monthly credit meetings to internal managers and holds each accountable to relevant department metrics.  Investigates and analyzes credit files for potential and existing clients.  Facilitates contract administration process and ensures the timely delivery of all invoices.  Communicates all billing related issues received from customers to the appropriate personnel. Develops and improves operational goals of department, staffing, training, and development of staff.


    Principal Functions & Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

    • Investigate, document and report credit worthiness for new and existing clients.
    • Document and report material changes in existing customers credit worthiness.
    • Maintain various department metrics.
    • Liaise with attorney and other specialists to pursue delinquent accounts
    • Monitor and communicate the percentages of aged accounts to CFO and auditors
    • Provide leadership and supervision to the Credit/Collections team.
    • Accountable for meeting agreed upon DSO and aging metrics.
    • Calculate bad debt expense in compliance with accepted accounting principles and IRS tax code.
    • Ensure continuous departmental process streamlining.
    • Evaluate latest technology for potential implementation.
    • Evaluate credit worthiness of retail finance customers.
    • Works with Cat Commercial Retail credit
    • Ensure timely delivery of all invoices.
    • Maintain billing and accounts receivable systems.
    • Provide training and support to billing system users as it relates to accounts receivable.
    • Liaison to representatives, communicate billing and credit issues and provide reports as needed
    • Must be able to assist the CFO with recommendations on (insert any items) based off of research and analysis.
    • Maintain a department organizational structure sufficient to meet all goals and objectives
    • Properly motivate the credit and collections staff
    • Measure department performance with appropriate metrics
    • Provide ongoing training of the credit staff
    • Manage relations with collection agencies, credit reporting agencies, and credit insurance providers.
    • Manage relations with the sales department
    • Maintain the corporate credit policy
    • Recommend changes in the credit policy to senior management
    • Personally investigate the largest customer credit applications
    • Personally visit the largest customers to establish relations
    • Monitor periodic credit reviews
    • Monitor deductions being taken by customers
    • Manage the application of late fees
    • Manage the corporate financing program



    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in credit and collections
    • Minimum 2-3 years experience in retail finance preferred
    • Knowledge of financial and accounting systems (Accounts Receivable, invoicing and retail finance software).
    • Knowledge of credit reporting database (D&B, Experian, S&P).



    • Strong communication abilities
    • Ability to analyze and report variances in DSO, account balances; basic financial statement analysis.
    • Position requires a high level of motivation (both self and team), initiative, enthusiasm, energy and reliability.
    • Strong organizational, customer service, and interpersonal skills
    • Strong knowledge of computer and software systems (Microsoft Office, Outlook etc…).
    • Strong knowledge of credit, collections and retail finance principles
    • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment.
